After a residency at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York, Maya Zbib presented her open studio of Three Verses of Solitude.
This was followed by another residency at Mabou mines later.
Three Verses of Solitude is an immersive performance that explores the spectrum of solitude, from refuge to loneliness, as a space for mourning, reflection, and creative renewal, especially in the wake of loss.
The next open-studio of the work will take place in August 2025 at the Noorderzon Festival for Performing Arts & Society in Groningen, Netherlands, followed by its official premiere in Beirut this November at Al Madina Theatre.
Three Verses of Solitude is a collaboration between Maya Zbib – Lebanese theatre director, performer, and artistic director of Zoukak Theatre, Lee Serle – Australian choreographer and performer, Ben Frost – Australian composer based in Iceland and Zoukak Collective. The three artists first met through the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative in 2010, and reunite now for this co-creation.
بعد إقامة فنّيّة في BAM «أكاديميةُ بروكلينَ للموسيقى» في مدينة نيويورك، وإقامة فنّيّة أخرى في Mabou Mines، انطلق عمل ثلاث آيات في الوحدة لفرقة زقاق من إخراج مايا زبيب بعرض قيد الانجاز.
يستكشف هذا العرض المسرحيّ أطيافَ العزلةِ من الملاذِ إلى الوحدة، باعتبارِها مساحةً للحزن والتفكّر والتجدّد الفنّيّ، لا سيما في ظلّ الفقدان. تنبعُ هذه الأعمالُ من عالمٍ يتفكّكُ باستمرارٍ، ولكنّها تصرّ على خلقِ مساحاتٍ للحداد الجماعيّ والتفكّرِ والتخيّلِ والفعلِ والحضور. سيقدّم ستقام فترة العمل الثانية على المشروع في مهرجانِ Noorderzon في غرونينغن في 14 آب، حيث ستعرض الفرقة مقتطفات من العمل قيد الانجاز، يليه العرضُ الافتتاحيّ الأوّل في بيروت في 18 تشرين الثاني.
ثلاث آيات في الوحدة هو عمل مشترك بين مايا زبيب – مخرجة وفنّانة مسرحية لبنانية ومديرة فنّيّة لمسرح زقاق، لي سيرل – مصمم رقص وفنّان أسترالي، بن فروست – مؤلّف موسيقيّ أستراليّ مقيم في آيسلندا، وفرقة زقاق. التقى الفنّانون الثلاثة للمرّة الأولى عام ٢٠١٠ من خلال مبادرة رولكس للإرشاد الفنّيّ، ويجتمعون مجدّدًا اليوم في هذا العمل المشترك.
