Workshop: Sensorial Dance & Oriental Movement Pedagogy
Sensorial Dance and Oriental Movement as pedagogic and therapeutic tools : a four day workshop With Souraya Baghdadi
30 August - 2 September 2018 (see schedule below)
Sensorial Dance is meditative and playful, it requires attention to our inner perceptions, while reconditioning our gestural habits; it builds presence by inhabiting a slow rhythm of motion. Based on structured protocols, it gradually takes us through different rhythms, leading to improvised dance. It often expresses the intimacy of our emotions, our sensibility. The gesture is harmonious and physiological. It is a dance that recreates us, and will ease our way towards Oriental Dance with the Hips and Rhythm Techniques.
The oriental movement is meditation in motion, a prelude to oriental dance, during which a myriad of 8s can potentially occur. The figure 8, symbol of infinity with its roundness and circularities, speaks to us about our femininity, opening us towards the world (to the outside) while bearing the integrative component of «returning to our self». This alternative between giving and taking structures, the living matter, balancing the tensions and restoring the body & mind relation.
