Zoukak receives the International Relief Fund of the Goethe-Institut
We are happy to announce that Zoukak was granted the International Relief Fund of the German Federal Foreign Office, the Goethe-Institut, and other partners.
This relief fund will help the Organization with procuring new technical equipment to replace the equipment that was damaged due to the Beirut Port Explosion. It will also cover part of Zoukak's running costs for the next couple of months to ensure the implementation of the ongoing activities and projects and the sustainability of the studio and the team.
This comes after a long year of uncertainty in Lebanon, resulting from a severe financial and political collapse, social unrest, a continuing popular uprising that began in October 2019, in addition to the Covid-19 pandemic and its various negative effects on social life, physical and mental health, and economic stability. In times of severe societal crises, culture is as essential as humanitarian assistance and heritage restoration, as it allows to create a multiplicity of narratives that helps the inhabitants to stay, dream, feel, work and live.
Zoukak has decided to Be; to stay and to create the conditions for others to be and stay; here and now. Believing in the power of theatre as a medium and a space that leads to real change through reflection and positive confrontation.
