omar abi azar
Born in 1983, Omar is a theater director and a founding member of Zoukak Theater Company, he holds a BA in Drama from the Lebanese University, Institute of Fine Arts (2006). Since 1999 he has performed in a large number of productions by local and international directors and he has worked as Assistant director for Natalie Garraud and Olivier Saccomano, of Du Zieu dans les Bleus.
His own work includes “Hussein” a solo performance within the Miniatures project in L’Officina, Marseille. He directed Zoukak’s collective research and experimentation on the text of Hamletmachine over the course of three years, including a one-month residency at L’Animal a L’Esquena and Azala performance centers, Spain (Dec 2008), concluding in two open studios and followed by the first presentation of the show in 2009 and the creation of a new version, Hamletmachine 2, in 2010, presented in Carthage Theatre Festival 2011.
He has taught theatre at St. Joseph University (faculty of medicine), as well as in various schools, and to children with special needs using drama therapy and he has led workshops with Zoukak across Lebanon and abroad.
